President’s Gala at SWU Features Artist Jared Emerson

CENTRAL, S.C. – Southern Wesleyan University will be hosting Jared Emerson, a talented artist who, live before an audience, will transform an empty canvas into a moving, beautiful presentation of Christ.

Emerson has been invited to perform at Southern Wesleyan University as part of its annual President’s Gala Oct. 25 at Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center auditorium.

“SWU humbly celebrates all gifts to the University throughout the year, each year! During the month of October, it’s our pleasure to host The President’s Gala where major donors to the University are treated to a “presidential dinner and presentation of student talent” as our way of saying thank you in a special and memorable way,” said Dr. Lisa McWherter, Southern Wesleyan’s vice president for advancement.

Born in Michigan in 1979, Emerson’s parents were strong in the faith and raised him in a loving Christian home. At an early age he decided he wanted to pursue the arts and has been actively involved in Greenville’s arts community. His studio, Art Crossing, is located in downtown Greenville.

He says on his website, “I come from a family of strong values, and I would describe my faith as a personal relationship with my Lord, Jesus. Christ has given me the strength to provide a level of intensity that pours onto my canvas at each event. Every stroke, every detail I do to the glory of God.”

Emerson has performed at numerous benefit events internationally. Celebrities he has painted have included dc Talk, Toby Mac, Tim Tebow, Dwayne Allen, Edwin McCain, Kevin Sorbo, Duncan of the Newsboys and a portrait for Steven Curtis Chapman of his daughter who passed away.
